Vision, leadership & Ephesians

Rick Meigs publishes a blog called The Blind Beggar. He recently posted some comments that relate perfectly with some of the things we have been studying in Ephesians. Check it out!

  • OH, yes. This is what I want! The 'edification' model does reflect Ephesians and seems so much more appropriate and healthy than the other model!

  • Rick, I loved stumbling upon your blog today (listed in the technorati for Open Source Theology). Was happy to give the ht.

  • The only thing that seems impractical about "the good model" is that it would require a very different [and perhaps elaborate?] sort of decision making process. How would decisions get made with all those arrows going everywhere? Even in our housegroup, for example, we follow our leader. And if there is dissention, well then... ???

    rally round the flag???

  • What do you mean by you 'follow the leader'? What kind of decisions need to made? You raise some interesting questions, but can you elaborate? Flesh it out more?

That aside (not because it is unimportant, but because I await your response!), Rick seems to be concerned that the *focus* in the current system is ill-fitting for mission: it emphasizes gathering around a particular person's "vision" (that is presumably more particular than to be a renewed humanity in the earth) rather than understanding our own particular (and god-given) 'vision' (a conglomeration of our life-situation and the gifts/talents we have been given) and finding aid in the god-given leadership gifts. I think. Perhaps I overstate the individual part too much. What do you think?
